A Long History
Huangshan City is a blossoming international tourist destination. Previously, it was called “Huizhou Prefecture”. Historically it was referred to as Xin’an. Its history dates back 2,200 years to the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC) when a country level administration was first set up. The two counties set up then were called “Yi” ”She”. They were under the administration of “Zhan Prefecture”, which was changed to “Xin’an” in the Jin Dynasty. During the reign of the Sui Tang dynasties, this area was under the jurisdiction of “She Prefecture” was replaced by “Huizhou Prefecture”, this name stays functional for 888 years till today. In fact, the name of Anhui Province is made up the initials of Anqin Prefecture and Huizhou Prefecture, the two regions noted for their political and economical significance respectively. The present Huangshan City, a city at provincial level, was set up in November, 1987 replacing the former Huizhou Prefecture.
